The Sahara Desert is the biggest desert in the world. It reaches across the continent for 4,000kms. Today, the population of this area is very small, but it was greater in the past. There was also more rainfall in the past and now there is an immense quantity of water under the desert. Scientists know that this water is thousands of years old.
